At this time of year there’s nothing better than escaping from the cold outdoors to cosy up with a hot drink (and cake) in your favourite coffee shop. While we already highlighted our favourite coffee spots in the boroughs of Bromley and Croydon a good few years ago, there has been plenty of new additions on our local high streets. With this in mind, we uncover the must-have coffee and cafe destinations for you to discover this winter.
SE Twenty
Bridging the border of Beckenham and Anerley, SE Twenty is an independent coffee house and kitchen, serving up freshly-ground coffee and delicious food from an extensive menu, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Open until late in the evening, it’s an ideal spot for after-work drinks during the week and also a popular place to while away a weekend afternoon – particularly on a Sunday when it serves a mean roast dinner!

Daisy Grey
Known for its impressive array of delicious sweet treats and cosy interior, Daisy Grey, has become a trendy meeting place right in the heart of Park Langley. Alongside cakes, brownies and banana bread, there’s also milkshakes, pancakes and silky Italian gelato on offer. For those without a sweet tooth, you can also find savoury menu options, including toasties and brunch classics like avocado on toast.

The Nest
The stylish décor, varied food menu and friendly staff have all contributed to the popularity of this café and bistro in Shirley – particularly with families. A nice touch is the inclusion of a wishing tree in the café. Customers are provided with a ribbon to add to the tree at the end of their meal – an experience that adds a special touch for the kids!

Poached
Any regular brunch-goers will be delighted by the offerings at Poached, which differentiates itself from other Beckenham eateries with some unique twists on traditional classics. Nestled in the parade of shops right by Beckenham Junction Station it’s ideal for commuters who can grab one of the tasty takeaway breakfast muffins or take advantage of the ‘build-your-own-brunch’ box option while on-the-go.

The Tram Stop
As the name suggests, this independent café, is ideally located on the way to or from Addiscombe tram stop, and serves a wide range of food, snacks, cakes and, of course – coffee. Breakfast and lunch is also served until 5pm every day.

The Grind Café
The Grind Café has an old-school café vibe with a modern twist. Alongside its traditional food offerings – including pies, fish and chips and burgers - there are freshly-made cakes and cookies, milkshakes and artisan coffee. Situated close to West Wickham station it also has an extensive takeaway menu to cater for those short on time and in need of a caffeine fix.

Stepping inside this family-run Italian café in Bromley North’s East Street feels like being warmly welcomed into a friend’s front room for a cuppa. Looking beyond the cosy and rustic décor, there’s smooth Italian coffee and an impressive array of delicious food, ranging from freshly-made pasta dishes to Italian desserts (including cannoli so delicious it’s impossible to eat just one!)

Cow & Bean
Close to Petts Wood station, this intimate little café has something for everyone – coffee and milkshakes are served in the day and, in the evening, you can grab a cocktail or two! There’s a selection of light savoury bites on offer and plenty of delicious cakes, all of which are best enjoyed on the lovely front terrace – just make sure you wrap up warm.
